Dos and Dont's
1. Always opt out of receiving promotions or other materials from a website or from the site's so-called partners.  Some sites have you click to say NO; on others, you'll have to deselect YES.
2. Set up a separate e-mail address (Hotmail, Yahoo and Lycos all offer free accounts) that you can give online retailers who require an e-mail address before they'll complete your order.  Also use this address when posting comments on a public message board.
3. Never reply to spam messages.  Sending back a nasty note might make you feel better, but it will confirm that your address is live and only invite more spam.
